Bluesky users celebrating Jesse Singal topping the most blocked chart when literally only .2% of the site's user base is blocking him...

I hate this. He should be removed, but it's extremely clear a massive majority simply don't give a fuck and they'll likely just ignore this. I wish that .2% would just come over here, but I don't see it happening for a wide number of reasons.

It just sucks overall.

It also isn't just a tiny bit concerning that only .2% of people out of millions actually want to do something as simple as clicking a button to support trans people at all! Nope, not one bit! Ahahahahaha :neocat_x_x:

@literalham @lulu That would be an excellent scenario, I truly hope that's the case.

@literalgrill @lulu i mean it is an important principle of statistics that they are only meaningful in context. to use a salient example, transphobes will use regret rates to scaremonger about trans care, but when put in context with stats for other med procedures, those exact same stats prove that GA care has by far the *lowest* rates of regret, by an order of magnitude. so i think singal being the most-blocked acct is more meaningful data than the raw number of blocks as % of users

@literalgrill @lulu put another way, there are a lot of bad ppl on bluesky who have been mass-blocked, but none of them reached that .2% number that singal has. therefore, given the many factors involved, that probably indicates that .2% is a significant portion of users to block a single account. my most conservative conclusion is that blocks as a % of total users is just not a very useful stat and we need to look for another way to process the data. perhaps % of MAUs instead of % total users

@literalgrill @lulu statistics are fucking complicated btw, i do not at all blame you for looking at a number like .2% and drawing the conclusion you did. its stressful to imagine all those ppl as actively choosing not to give a shit, so im just trying to reassure you that it probably doesn't mean that.
also im on the SW/nsfw side of bsky and i promise you there are tons of trans ppl having a great time on bsky. not an endorsement, but like, we are definitely there and active
