Installed a forum on A&C's page and will probably tinker with it a bit more later. So far it's working though, and hopefully once I finish installing the needed extensions (including security ones), it won't go bork bork.
I actually have to get back to finishing @aradiacollective 's own forum, though the reason I've slouched off there is because the space with our host is already getting up there in reaching the limit--and I'm a little scared that if I edit it anymore and then announce that it's open, it'll immediately reach the limit imposed by our host and whoops, all the work died.
(I have backups, but still.)
We'll see though. Last resort is just going to proboards and making a free account for Aradia
"NAAN, why are you making forums, forums are dead, discord is where it's at"
It's called planning for the future AND people seemingly preferring a forum-like platform than Discord offers
@naan Yes, we have forums too, although it barely gets used, but I'm hoping there are more solutions for chat. I do have a Mattermost server, but of course some of the features that come free, but oihers important for community management are paid,.
I guess it's time to bring back IRC?
@chikorita157 @naan I'm relatively active on the empty movement forums... The #Utena forum. Some of the biggest problems is just that... Forums and communities live and die by their users. It's no fun talking to nothing and nowhere. If I wanted to do that I'd sit next to the railroad and scream at locomotives...
...I digress. One thing really good about the fediverse is just being able to plug into other servers. So you get other voices too, rather than just the ones logged in.
One problem with forums is I don't really have the mental space for remembering to check more than one or two forums at a time.
Reddit really is convenient for having all the stuff in one place. Unfortunately it's reddit.
That said. If this server had an IRC I'd join. People are cool here.
@oceaniceternity @chikorita157 I've made forums before when they were still relevant and not a lot of activity ever, no matter how much I tried to have folks join and discuss. So making a forum now is just nothing for me, it's knowing the environment online and not having high expectations. But it's always there if something happens.
It's actually funny because I also don't have the mental energy to check forums nowadays but up until like idk 2014, I had checking and interacting in forums energy down to a T. I often think it's just routine changes and now having to struggle with "re-learning" old habits. That's just me though
I do need to check out the Sakurajima forum one of these days I too like the people here And agreed about the Fediverse
If forums are dead though, IRC is way deader. I'm not going to be able to quote it properly but like someone said once on Fedi: expecting IRC to make a comeback is a waste of time, because the majority simply moved on. Although tbf, you can say that for MySpace, Skype, MSN Messenger, Tumblr, etc.
(Althoigh part deux, despite being old enough to have used IRC in its heyday, I never did because I got online much later. So I don't really have any nostalgia for it )
@naan I also have a forum that everyone refuses to use but just u wait for that day..
@Hika HAHA I used to have a free invisionboard when those were still around and it was a ghost town...and that was when forums were relevant. So I'm with you lol just y'all wait
@naan omg I USE PROBOARDS
