@anianimalsmoe maybe the essence is that the the photograph is an impression & japanese use the word 'image' with the connotation imagination? It is very interesting how language and culture are connected. And the way this makes translations and foreign words weird

They do use it in that way and they don't think it's odd. It just sounds weird in actual English.
Another odd example is レンタル傘 which they direct translate to Rental Umbrella.
Some places have umbrellas that they lend to guests as long as they're returned. Or they might be completely free for taking. Rental implies payment in English, but it does not in Japanese.
@anianimalsmoe my Japanese is at beginner level so I don't recognize the kanji sign that you use. I enjoy to read your interesting insights though
