@glennmagusharvey Tbh, I think Linux tends to be annoying for Windows powerusers because it's very different w.r.t. how you manage stuff.

Maybe the easiest way to see if it's for you is to just install it in a VM. Even if it's a little slow, you would be able to see if you like the whole idea of package managers.

@zoku88 I've installed Linux Mint and Lubuntu on a couple computers before so I know something of what to expect. I just haven't made a Linux OS my primary work (or work-and-play, even) OS before.

Package managers weirded me out at first, but I realized that they're basically like app stores but where everything is free and open source, and I love it. I use F-Droid on my phone anyway.

@zoku88 If anything I was more weirded out that couldn't find the "bottom" of my filesystem with the different drives. A few videos later, I started to understand the logic, including "walking into" my filesystem at somewhere other than the bottom. Besides, it's my own "fault" that I'm a crazy old-Windows traditionalist, forgoing Windows's default Program Files, Documents, etc. folders and managing install locations and storage on my own.

@zoku88 Most importantly, I feel that using Linux would put me more "in control" of what my computer does(n't) do, keeping out bloatware, customizing things, avoiding forced updates/advertising, slimming down what I don't need, and making use of open-source software when possible.

One thing keeping me from taking the plunge is that I'm unsure whether my games (especially older obscure doujin games for Windows) will run. But I know this has gotten a lot better in recent years.

For games I think I haven't booted Windows in about... Six or eight months now? So far Proton handled everything I threw at it.

And for those games that are out of Steam, the Lutris Wine version by Glorious Eggroll works great.
