Today, February 14, 2016, is the birthdate of the replicant known as Pris. Bioengineered humans created by Tyrell Corporation for cheap labor have implanted memories and a built-in four-year lifespan to prevent them from developing empathetic abilities (Blade Runner, 1982)

The subtitles were garbage, the image grainy, but NEO-TOKYO didn't care. It crashed through the screen, all neon & concrete, a symphony of blood & metal. This was no sanitized future with ray guns & teleporters. It was chaos, rebellion, the future as a punch to the face. And it was GORGEOUS.

Then 1992. UCLA common room. #Bladerunner Director's Cut. No voiceover. No hand-holding. Just the rain soaked streets of a dying Los Angeles. Even the ads had more life than the people.

To the lackwit who handwaved the merits of #BladeRunner
Let's get this straight. The future was never going to be whatever classic sci-fi promised. The utopian future of Star Trek or Asimov was strictly a fantasy for who believed that humanity would magically fix itself just cuz we invented cool gadgets. BladeRunner doesn't predict the future. It was more of a warning where we were headed if we didn't stop screwing things up with corporate greed, inequality & environmental neglect.
