Speaking of #BotsInSpace migration, how's everyone doing?
A day after I finished moving 50+ creative bots to my own server, things are looking pretty good!
https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/migrating-50-accounts-across-the-fediverse/
botsin.space migration
And I'm done. Officially migrated from #BotsInSpace to my own server, all 50-something accounts.
Thanks for the memories, @colin!
And if anyone thought I spent hours migrating each individual account, don't be a fool!
I spent hours writing a script that does that for me instead.

Hope someone else finds this useful!
Now that there is 30 days until Bots in Space closes, anyone looking for a new place to move your anime/Japanese media related bots, you are free to move your bots on our servers (sakurajima.moe or sakurajima.social) as long you follow these guidelines:
> While bots are allowed, note that your bot can only make up to 4 public automated posts in an hour (1 post every 25 minutes). No more than 16 unlisted posts in an hour. No repetitive posting (posting the same thing repeatedly) is allowed for public posting, if repetitive, keep it unlisted.
>
> We do not allow bots that solely share only AI content (e.g. bots that share AI generated images or powered by ChatGPT)
If your bot regularly uploads video, we recommend you to enable automated post deletion.
botsin.space migration
As a small distraction, I am slowly beginning the migration of my creative bots from the botsin.space server (*).
I've considered a few options, and settled on moving everything onto the same server where I host my personal account.
Is this a good idea? Will it work? Will I have to upgrade the server?
Time will tell!

Sadly #botsinspace is shutting down, so I've moved my #Buffy plot bot over to mas.to. In case anyone's into the idea of a bot that posts absurd #BuffyTheVampireSlayer plots twice a day...
Now that #Botsinspace is shutting down, I'm wondering which of my current, past and planned bots you're still interested in.
Below I post multiple choice polls, please only vote in polls that have bots that you would follow if I migrated them to a new instance.
I've removed the membership caps on https://botsinbox.net Memberships - I realised it might feel a bit like artificially limiting the availability, which wasn't the intention.
OK, I've managed to move the entire "Chestbot Expanded Universe" away from #botsinspace (RIP).
New accounts are:
@chest_bot (open chest)
@chest_bot_atm (deposit)
@chest_bot_shop (shop)
Still deciding which of my other bots to keep online.
Ehdotuksia? Tarjouksia?
Friendly Palestine-info bot in search of a new server home
botsin.space
is shutting down: https://muffinlabs.com/posts/2024/10/29/10-29-rip-botsin-space/
That means that Palestina in Verzet (@palestina) is now on the lookout for a new server to call home!
What’s this?
Palestina in Verzet posts regular updates from the Palestinian resistance and liberation movement (sourced from Telegram), in Dutch. It’s medium-volume (~ 100-ish messages a day) and can lift up the liberatory spirits of a resistance-conscious server space
Suggestions for bot-friendly servers very welcome! We’re looking to move asap and in any case before December
thank youuu <3 <3 <3
Does a new home for all the #botsinspace accounts exist, since the server will shut down?
If your bot is on https://botwiki.org and you're migrating it from #BotsInSpace, please share the new URL so that I can update the site!
(And if it's not there yet https://botwiki.org/submit-your-bot.)
Starting to see the first few bots making the #BotsInSpace migration
If people want to move their bot from #botsinspace , they are welcome at as long as they mark their account as bot.
for people who came here to ask about my post botsinspace plans for my bots: a couple of them will be retired but i am going to move most of them to another server.
if you are experienced with self hosting something lighter than the regular mastodon software that can be used just for bots and want to help me out i would love advice on how to spin up a cheap server for that. they all use cheap bots toot sweet so it needs to be compatible with that.

How do you feel about #botsinspace closing down?
We're losing so much #Fediverse culture this week: first #BotsInSpace, now #RadioFreeFedi!
If anyone need a new home for Japanese Media/Culture related bots, we do allow them, although there are certain guidelines you have to follow. We currently have 6 active bots on our server.
From the about page:
> While bots are allowed, note that your bot can only make up to 4 public automated posts in an hour (1 post every 25 minutes). No more than 16 unlisted posts in an hour. No repetitive posting (posting the same thing repeatedly) is allowed for public posting, if repetitive, keep it unlisted.
>
>If you flood the local timeline, we may limit/suspend your account temporarily and you may appeal once you resolve the outstanding issues.
>
>Note: This rule does not apply to apps that auto-shares blog posts or RSS feeds. Non automated posts made does not count towards this limit either.
>
>Note: We do not allow bots that solely share only AI content (e.g. bots that share AI generated images or powered by ChatGPT)
> Bots are required to be labeled as automated.
If your bot regularly uploads video, please be mindful as that can raise the cost of object storage. If you plan to have a bot that uploads videos, you should consider donating monthly or linking it externally (yes, you should be able to provide a player from your site to play the video from the preview)
(Note that I do plan to move only the Mastodon Object storage to a more flexible (one that charges by the TB) one at the end of this year, or early next year because Mastodon caches media, which is why the Object Storage for Mastodon is big)
If your bot shares artwork that you don’t own, you are required to credit (provide link to original) to the post.

Bots in space is now the 2nd? 3rd? Major instance that I've seen ride off into the sunset now.
I have a question: has the idea of handing off ownership been floated? I'm sure there is a lot that goes into the decision to put the instance out to pasture. It seems that the metaphorical torches could be passed?
I hesitate to offer the idea of selling the instance because, let's face it, nobody wants the instance marketplace for many reasons.
