I started a little sketchbook for doodling the Friends of Big Bear Valley eaglets as they grow up= here's the cover!

The #eagle cam continues, and this morning Jackie, the female, remains on the nest through an overnight snow.

No eggs will be hatching this year, but the parents do not yet realize it. Continuing to watch them.

At about 3:40am nest-time, Jackie is mostly covered in snow. The temperature is 30F, with basically no wind. Ventusky says they've gotten 1/3 of an inch, but it looks like more, as the entire outer bowl of the nest is lost beneath the white, powdery blanket.

This is an overnight photo so is an IR one, and shows in black and white. Jackie is in about the 2:00 position, with only the top few dark feathers of her wing visible above the snow. Although difficult to make out, her head is tucked around her left shoulder, and under her left wing.

Moments after I captured this photo she woke up and shook, moving slightly and laying there for many minutes with her head up. Eagles don't see well in the dark, so I doubt much is visible for her beyond the nest. Since she moved one can see the depth of the snow more easily and it certainly looks more like a couple of inches (not unusual at this elevation of 7100 feet.) Snow is a better insulator, so probably good this is not rain.

Still difficult to watch all the work the parents are putting in.

I've been watching daily on their famous #webcam
You can tell the female Jackie has been distressed these past 2 days, vocalizing so often. Hopeful for the other 2 eggs but guarded #Nature #birds #Weather

Afternoon situation with the #BaldEagle nest. Just realized that the female, Jackie, has been on the nest for 20 straight hours in the mucky weather. #Rain and #snow are still falling, and the #wind is picking up. It puts my #Monday into perspective.

Continuing the Monday eagle saga, shows Jackie, the female, still settled deeply into the nest. More of the snow has melted from around the edges, leaving her much more exposed to the wind.

One can still see a grey vista behind her, down to the near shore of the lake. Snow can be seen right down to the shore.

#CA needs the precip, but it sure felt better when they had sun and traded nest duty.
