Obviously this is a terrible situation and a real tragedy for this family in any time period.
But given the climate of ICE/DHS snatching random people off the streets and into their secretive prison network people are VERY on edge about any sort of missing persons rn in minority communities.
The possibility that these kids could have been kidnapped or harmed by someone pretending to be an ICE/DHS agents also I think caused this case to have quite a lot of interest.
