Tein keväällä kantelun yhdenvertaisuus- ja tasa-arvolautakuntaan syrjinnästä, jonka aiheutti Kela ja sen tulkkivälityskeskus.

Lautakunta totesi Kelan syrjineen minua kieltäytymällä tallennetulkkauksesta asiantuntijatapaamisessa, jossa kys. tulkkaus oli olennainen osa yhdenvertaiseen osallistumiseen.

Tilanne on nyt muuttunut.

"Kelan vammaisten henkilöiden tulkkauspalvelu on muuttanut väliaikaisesti ohjeistustaan tallenteiden tulkkauksesta. Toisin kuin aiemmin, tallenteen tulkkaus ei toistaiseksi edellytä kaikissa tilanteissa siihen liittyvää vuorovaikutustilannetta. Muutoksen syynä ovat viimeaikaiset yhdenvertaisuus- ja tasa-arvolautakunnan ratkaisut."

Vammaisten oikeus voitti tällä erää. Väliaikaisesti. Vaadin pysyvää muutosta parempaan suuntaan.

Lisään vielä tähän, et en ollut ainoa joka teki kantelun lautakuntaan tallennetulkkauksen kieltäytymisestä. Useampi henkilö kanteli samaisesta syystä ja siitä oli valtavan iso apu.

Omista oikeuksista on tärkeää pitää kiinni.

The #Braille200 event on Tues evening at the British Library was brilliant - to have so many Braille enthusiasts together is very rare, and there was a relaxed atmosphere of celebration; with wine, canapes and lovely background music. Braille doesn’t get this type of VIP treatment very often! The message that I took away from the engaging panel event was very much that Braille is part of the toolkit for a blind person, no one is expecting you to use it exclusively - when your hands are tired, use audio and when audio gets overwhelming, use your hands. The fact is that some tasks lend themselves better to one or the other. It’s all personal choice.

I also enjoyed looking at some items from the library archive, including a handmade Braille book by Stevie Ronnie with beautiful binding and a children’s Braille book, by Polly Edman, that had tactile thread winding across the pages to make it interactive.
I also had fun trying out the Dot Pad again and got my hands on the Monarch too (they both display graphics as well as being multi line Braille displays) - way too expensive, but hey, a girl can dream! Tech like this represents the future so fabulously, showing that Braille is both a reading and writing medium, but now also has the potential to help blind people understand graphics and charts more easily and allow them to be creative themselves.
I bumped into several people I know which was lovely and I’m sure there were plenty of others there that I didn’t find, the joys of trying to socialise when totally blind!
There were about 230 guests and it felt so special to be able to attend this event, one of the many events being organised to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Braille.

I missed #WhiteCane day for the #Blind and #DeafBlind . I I think I was sick at the time.

No surprise with my list of multiple and chronic illnesses.

Sharing this again because I think it's really good. This writing really changed the way I see accessibility features. It's not gonna tell you to use alt-text or how to go about writing it. Rather, it reframes the discussion of inclusivity and accessibility around a deafblind life, the shortcomings of assimilationist accessibility, and how deafblind folks have forged their own path in their communications.

Näkövammaisten valkoinen keppi merkitsee minulle itsenäisyyttä ja turvallisuutta. Sen avulla pääsen kävelemään ihan itse esim. kauppaan ja takaisin kotiin. Sen lisäksi ihmiset ottavat paremmin näkövammaiset huomioon liikenteessä ja väistävät kepinkäyttäjää.

Keppi kulkeutuu mukanani jokaisena päivänä ja siitä on tullut osa minua.

Found a new way #WebDesigners are blocking #Accessibility.

Because I am legally #Blind, with less than 10 degrees of vision, I cannot visually solve #Captchas

Because I am mostly #Deaf, I cannot solve vocal Captchas.

Therefore, I added block and solve Captchas extensions to my browser.

On three major sites - I could no longer access, as they had added Captchas that bypassed the blockers!

FaceBook, Amazon, and Submittable do not allow Captcha blockers.

So, I had not been able to access those sites at all for a while.

When I found Submittable blocking me today, for the first time, I decided to turn off the Captcha blockers, as they obviously aren't working.

Instantly, Amazon and Submittable are working.

I haven't tried FaceBook.

#CaptchaBlockers are and #Accessibility need for blind, deaf, #DeafBlind, and multiple other disabilities. It is Disability Discrimination for sites to block Accessibility Access helpers.

I shouldn't need a sighted and hearing person, likely a stranger, to be given my login information, username and password, to log me into every site I need to go to every day!

#Tech people, please respect people with disabilities. Disable and Remove Captchas. Disable and Remove Block the Block Captchas extensions.

I wasted a lot of hours trying to figure out why suddenly I could not login to sites.

Hours because some tech people decided to break and block accessibility for a DeafBlind #Author!
