The very first spread in my very first black sketchbook by @syystuuli (some day I’ll show you the very first page before the spread^^)

Pixie Cup lichen (Cladonia sp.) and moss on the ground

A Cladonia lichen with a cluster of yellow-green, cup-shaped structures (podetia) growing from tiny leaflets (squamules) on the ground.
The surface of the podetia looks rough and mealy, with a few tiny squamules growing on their base.
Some green and brown Haircap moss with yellow-orange sporophytes grows between the podetia.
In the blurred background dry grass and some dry pine needles.

This one has a bit of a 90's feel to me - maybe it's the softness of the faded background?

Bronzed Pixie-Cup and Reindeer lichen surrounded by Haircap moss

Bronzed Pixie-cup lichen (Cladonia gracilis ssp. turbinata) with several closed, inside yellowish cups on long green stems (podetia), surrounded by Haircap moss and a white Reindeer lichen.
A few small green leaflets (squamules) grow on the stems, brown apothecia on the edges of the cups.

Mycena albatus III. Silicone mushrooms on dried reindeer moss and soil.
I am currently working on a range of Pixels, small red cap mushrooms on a long stem. Pictures will be up shortly!

I've experimented quite a bit with photography. The lights are very hard to capture - either the lights aren't visible, or the glass dome reflects too much and blocks the view. This is one of my experiments with backgrounds - not the best one. I would style it differently now. For the mosses, I like to place them among real moss, but I'm still figuring out what works best for the glass domes.

Common Toadskin lichen (Lasallia papulosa) on a rock

The photo shows several large grey lobes of a lichen growing next to each other on a rock.
Each of these lobes is connected to the rock by a single holdfast. Their upper side with many pustules resembles the skin of toads.

I love this stump. I've shared pictures of it before here, it's got different cool stuff growing on every side. Some lipstick #lichens, several kinds of #moss... it's just great. Five star stump.

Extra bonus picture of the sky overhead, a gorgeous day for a walk before the rain starts up.

A brilliantly green moss piles in short, tufted little mounds on top of a slowly decomposing stump. They look incredibly soft.

Lipstick lichens grow on the shady side of a stump, below the more sun-loving moss on the top side.

A brilliant blue sky sets the stage for several kinds of cloud formations and a bright sun shining down.

some young rich golden shelf mushrooms, slightly covered in needles, branch out from a deep emerald green mossy tree root

a cantankerous bulbous old conk protrudes from the side of a tree, wearing an expression a bit like Roz from Monsters Inc.

tucked away in a mossy tree stump, an object I'm not entirely certain is a mushroom? with a scored surface similar to a wooden ball that had been manually shaved away by a student sculptor, but perhaps a tiny mushroom whose surface had been nibbled at by a slug or something else, but not quite "natural" looking

the end of a sawed branch, with two specimens of fungus growing from it; the top cream white, and the bottom pastel brown; perhaps an age gap between the same species? lots of blurry mosses & lichens in the background

Three little pixels together. I like their elegance, these long and tall mushrooms are simple but that only makes them better.

Close-ups are nice. I might take more of those. Generally, I take a few pictures that show the whole piece, choose my favorite, and post that one only. But it's probably better to post most of them and include different viewpoints too - close-ups, in a living room setting, etc. It might make the artwork more interesting to look at, especially for those who don’t have it in front of them. At least, I know I prefer seeing multiple images when I'm looking at art online.

Today my child and I got out on our first hike of 2025, on the Wiley Trails. It was drizzling and raining the whole time, but it was awesome to be able to get outdoors again.
